GE101/100 Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I be directed with questions?
You can contact the CREW Center at 213-4520 for any questions you may have. Ask to speak with Melissa, Fran or Courtney.
What if a student has no computer skills?
The modules are very easy to navigate and user friendly.
How will I know my students completed DISCOVER if I am teaching an online course?
You can have your students create a print screen of their DISCOVER results and email them to you. If a student has completed all three assessments, then results from the Interests, Abilities, and Values inventory (IAV) should be present on the Inventory Summary page.
How can students with disabilities complete the module?
The module is compatible with disability software. In addition, each module has been transcribed. This transcription appears on the right side of each module.
If I do not want to use the module format, can I schedule a workshop at the CREW Center?
While we will assist all general students and clients with completing DISCOVER, all GE101/100 students must complete the module online.
Can I refer my students to the CREW Center to complete the modules?
No, due to limited staffing and computer resources, GE101/100 students must complete the module online. However, please feel free to contact the CREW Center staff if you need assistance understanding and implementing this process.
Do my students have to complete all six steps at one time?
No, each step can be completed separately. You can complete one step during class time, assign another for homework, etc. Students must complete each individual step in its entirety before beginning the next step.
Can I complete the modules and the DISCOVER assessment before assigning them to my class?
Yes. All you need to do is request an additional user id that you can use for yourself to take DISCOVER. You can review the modules at any time beginning in August.
What is the approximate total time these modules will take to complete?
  • Step 1: Getting Started - 20 minutes
  • Step 2. DISCOVER Instructions - 1 minute
  • Step 3: DISCOVER assessment - 30 - 60 minutes
  • Step 4: DISCOVER Results and Research - 12 minutes
  • Step 5: Next Steps - 12 minutes
  • Step 6: Final Survey - 5 minutes
*The modules are designed to be completed within one week.
If I want my class to complete the modules during class time and the computer lab(s) are unavailable, what should I do?
First, check with the library staff for alternatives or other libraries. If not, find a computer classroom with a projector and Internet access and you could potentially show the modules from the projector to the class. Remember, though, that each student will need a computer to take the actual assessment.
What is the library's capacity for students to complete the modules?
The library has 80 computers with speakers or sound capability on the first floor, including the computer lab which faculty can reserve. Headphones are available for all computers on the first floor. The library staff will ask students to use headphones.
What about students who have previously completed DISCOVER?
Students, who began the Metropolitan College program beginning in Fall 2008, have completed a process similar to these modules. We suggest that they do not again complete these modules. These students will be able to access their DISCOVER results by going to a Metropolitan College student specific webpage (the MyMc page, which is accessed from www.metro-college.com). For all other students who have completed DISCOVER, we see the benefit in completing the three modules. These statements are recommendations only.
